Head for the beach
When you’re on holiday in this area, chances are you’ll want to head for the beach – and there’s a good selection of seaside resorts to choose from. Closest is Littlehampton (10 minutes’ drive), with its promenade, theme park and amusement arcades. Worthing (25 minutes) has a traditional pier with a theatre and elegant restaurant, and there are a number of beaches with sandy expanses at low tide in Bognor Regis (20 minutes).
Kid-friendly ideas
Other kid-friendly ideas include WWT Arundel (10 minutes) for boat trips through the wetlands to see rare pelicans nesting. Toddlers also usually love the mini-train rides and dinosaur trails at Drusillas Park (45 minutes), while older kids may prefer fast-paced driver days at Goodwood Motor Circuit (20 minutes)
History and heritage
If it’s history and heritage that pulls you to West Sussex, make tracks for Bignor Roman Villa to admire ornate floor mosaics, or tour the Elizabethan house and estate at Parham House and Gardens (both 20 minutes). Arundel Castle (half an hour’s walk) is a melange of architectural styles, and you can dig deep into rural life in the impressive Weald and Downland Living Museum (half an hour’s drive).
